Learning to play chess offers children a wide range of benefits that support both their academic and personal development.
Chess encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, as children learn to plan ahead, analyse situations, and consider the consequences of their actions. It also helps improve concentration, memory, patience, and perseverance, as players must stay focused and think strategically throughout the game.
Beyond cognitive development, chess can build confidence, resilience, and sportsmanship by teaching children how to handle both wins and losses respectfully. Additionally, chess promotes creativity and social interaction, providing children with opportunities to connect with others, work collaboratively, and develop communication skills in a fun and engaging environment.

In our beginner class, we are following through a lesson plan written by International Chess Master Daniel Rensch.
This is a 20 week lesson plan, designed purposefully for teachers in schools, and starts by learning how each individual piece moves, to tactics, strategies, and by the end of it your child should be ready to try their first ever tournament, with each lesson having fun mini games related to the topic of the week.
Each week we will have a combination of structured learning, as well as free game play to try to get the right balance of playing and improving.
If you miss the first few weeks, don't worry! We have 2 staff members on board who can spread out and help your child to catch up
